Critical Accident for Giovanni Prosperi During a Self-Supported Cycling Event in the USA: Emergency Fundraiser Launched

The Italian ultracyclist was struck by a motor vehicle near Rochester, NY. He is in critical condition in the intensive care unit. His family has launched a PayPal medical fund and an official WhatsApp group for clinical updates.

During a self-supported endurance cycling event in the United States, Italian ultracyclist Giovanni Prosperi was struck by a motor vehicle along the route. The violent collision required immediate emergency air transport (Life Flight) to the Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), a premier Level 1 trauma center specialized in critical trauma.

Current Clinical Condition

Giovanni's condition remains extremely critical and fragile. He suffered severe thoracic vertebral fractures that require complex surgical stabilization, which is currently on hold as his vital signs are not yet stable enough to proceed into the operating room.

He is hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), intubated and supported by mechanical ventilation. The medical team is administering high-dose vasopressor medications to counteract severe blood pressure drops, exacerbated by the onset of septic shock and pneumonia. He remains in critical condition and in grave danger of life.

Who is Giovanni Prosperi: Roots in Sora, Life in Cleveland, Ohio, and Family

Originally from Sora, Italy, Giovanni has lived in the United States in Cleveland, Ohio since 2018. In 2019, he married Katarina Greer (Kate), who during these agonizing hours has never left his side: she is staying at a hotel near the Rochester medical center to be with him every single day.

The Critical Economic Emergency of US Healthcare

Alongside the critical medical battle, the family faces immense financial vulnerability under the American healthcare system. Prolonged hospitalization in an intensive care unit with advanced life support incurs astronomical daily expenses, running into tens of thousands of dollars every 24 hours.

Even with insurance coverage in place, there is an immediate and tangible danger of exceeding the policy's lifetime maximum benefit, leaving the family directly liable for monumental hospital bills, ongoing acute rehabilitation, and extended lodging expenses far from home.

How to Support Giovanni and His Family

To support Giovanni, Kate, and their family through these decisive weeks, an official fundraiser has been launched on PayPal titled Help Giovanni Prosperi Fight. Every donation goes directly to immediate medical expenses and emergency support.

Every donation, regardless of amount, and sharing this appeal across the cycling and sporting community makes a real, tangible difference.
